An Awakening-Meredith Baxter
In continuation of our Closeted Lesbian Month…another lady comes out of the closet. No, it is not the Queen I thought it would be, but this is heroic just the same. Your mom, and mine…
Meredith Baxter
“I am a lesbian and it was a later-in-life recognition,” she told Matt Lauer on TODAY. “Some people would say, well, you’re living a lie and, you know, the truth is — not at all. This has only been for the past seven years.”
It is a shame that National Enquirer came out with a story about a month ago that Miss Baxter was on a lesbian only cruise. She came out because she did not want them to toss her personal life around like most people tend to do these days.
“I’ve always lived a very private life,” said the actress. “To come out and disclose stuff is very antithetical to who I am,” adding, “I did not want some tabloid to take the story and make it up — I wanted it to be in my own words,”
she told Lauer.
Always choosing the wrong men purposely because it drove the relationship to end early, Miss Baxter, seven years ago, had a relationship with a woman and came to terms that she was gay.
“I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening,” she said. “I never fought it because it was like, oh, I understand why I had the issues I had early in life. I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships.”
