A Tribute to Amy -Thoughts : A Tribute to Amy

Posted on 31st August 2011 in Culture

Possums, I just found this new blog by Naftali Stern, a NYC based designer and founder of theBohmerian blog. And I came across this lovely montage of Amy Winehouse, taken by Hedi Slimane that I have never seen before.

I hate typing Google and seeing the good AND A SHIT LOAD OF BAD pics, but I guess it all goes with the territory when you were a soul suffering with an addiction. Sorry for all the Winehouse references, but I am a sensitive soul and this is how I heal.

You should have seen Ava when Michael Jackson passed.

AND you should have seen the  many charges from ITunes on my credit card!!!

It’s one thing to see a Black woman going at it with a credit card, but it is another sight to see a Black woman  going at it with a credit card that don’t belong to her!!!

I was like, “Ava why can’t you be like everyone else and download them for free!!!”

I kid.

I kid.

I like the blog I found it on. It is a thinking man’s blog about art and design. Sometimes, Possums, in this day and age of excess, it is still nice to come across blogs that are mostly pics, so that the eyes can wander and the mind could rest.

I also love what he wrote about Amy:

Often when we talk about struggling stars we may criticize their behaviors and assume their overall success to be less deserving. Music in particular, its vibrations and those who channel its energy, are a reflection of the culture and people, and just as we glorify those artists who highlight our deepest fantasies and desires, remember too that they also bring to life our deepest fears and struggles. It is their own path to overcome those struggles, and since they have sacrificed their own privacy, often they must struggle harder to achieve those same goals.

Remember: criticizing anyone is the unnecessary response of feeling insecure.

Amy, I will miss you, your music, and your love!

Beyonce is Pregnant!!!!! Congrats!!!!

Posted on 29th August 2011 in Culture

“Mom, guess whose pregnant?”

“Is it you?” I screamed.

“No,” Ava answered.

“Is it you????” I screamed.

“No!!! Mom, didn’t I tell you that you would know I got pregnant, if you woke up, found my clothes gone, your plus size clothes gone, for the later months, and my bed empty!!” she hollered back.

“Is it you???” I screamed.

“Beyonce is!!!”

“Oh! And????”

AND then she showed me this picture from her lap top.

This is Beyonce at tonight’s MTV Awards 2011.

I don’t think this is doctored cause I just caught the last bit of it..just when she walked off.

Love the dress.

Ava is in shock!

And she needs to break the hell on out of it! Someone should let my daughter know that it’s not the first time a woman has gotten pregnant. It’s not like Beyonce is unwed single mother, with no prospects, no husband, no family, no money and no job.

Not, that this has happened to me.

It’s just a for instance!

As long as Ava isn’t!

Congrats!

Out of A Mountain of Despair A Stone of Hope-Martin Luther King Jr.

Posted on 23rd August 2011 in Culture

At 30-feet-tall, the sculpture at the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial is opened to the public for the first time on the National Mall August 22, 2011 in Washington, DC. Fifteen years after Congress authorized the memorial, the statue of the American civil rights pioneer will be dedicated on August 28, the 48th anniversary of King’s historic “I Have A Dream” speech.

Beautiful.

Ummm…okay-Why Megan Fox is removing her tattoo of Marilyn Monroe

Posted on 23rd August 2011 in Culture

Possums, came across this ditty today:

‘I don’t want to attract negative energy’: Why Megan Fox is removing her tattoo of tragic Marilyn Monroe

By NATALIE TROMBETTA via http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Megan Fox has revealed she is removing her tattoo of Marilyn Monroe in a bid to avoid attracting ‘negative energy’.

The 25-year-old actress, whose acting career has floundered in recent years, began laser treatment on her forearm inking earlier this year.

She was quizzed about her etching of the iconic blonde bombshell, who died in 1962 at the age of 36, by Italian magazine Amica.

Fox, who was spotted on the set of This is 40 in LA today, explained:

“I’m removing it. It is a negative character, as she suffered from personality disorders and was bipolar. “

“I do not want to attract this kind of negative energy in my life.”

WOW!

Oh, well to each his own, but I always say that you should pause and think before you ink, cause whatever you ink will be the same “energy” that will challenge you.

For example, I have the symbol of “Strength” in Japanese inked on the right leg, and ever since then I noticed that my strength in all things have been tested-from my nerves to myself managing Lupus. I also have the Buddha on my left wrist, which to me was a symbol of not only love I have for his teachings, but a symbol of peace to me.

All of which have been tested!

I had to learn the hard way that you don’t seek “peace”; you be “peace”!

Personally, I think that Miss Fox has got it wrong. From when I saw the tat on her, I remember telling Ava that Miss Fox will always be struggling in terms of  her trying to balance being a sex symbol with trying to be taken seriously as an actress.

Isn’t that what happened to Marilyn Monroe?

What I Do On My Wednesday Nights

Posted on 16th August 2011 in Culture

Possums, do you remember when T.V. excited you?

When T.V left you hot and bothered?

No, I’m not talking about porn!

Possums, Mama Lucresia has got herself a new hobby taking up her Wednesday nights! And it is glorious! The show is called, “Misfits.”

This following clip truly made me fall all over myself!

Misfits is a British science fiction comedy-drama television series about a group of young offenders named Nathan, Kelly, Simon, Alisha and Curtis who are doing community service. After a freak electrical thunderstorm, they discover that they have obtained supernatural powers. Bestowed with strange powers, they each realize that they have a lot more to worry about than just picking up litter, especially as they discover that they are not the only ones who have been given strange powers. One by one their secret powers are revealed, feelings brought to the surface and relationships formed and broken.

Now wasn’t that a mouthful?

And so is the guy who plays Nathan-Robert Sheehan! Jigga is FIINNNE!

Oy, to be twenty-three again!

Yes, I say “oy” now!

I guess I’ve been watching the show too much!

This show is not only very well-cast, but the writing, direction and production design are amazing! It just reminds you how much North American networks still get it wrong!

Look what they did to “SKINS”!

It was sacrilegious!

Ava will never be the same!

Mind you, she didn’t watch one episode of MTV’s version cause she knew they would ruin it.

And she was right.

They did!

Possums, I remember as a young girl watching Benny Hill reruns with my father. You would be upstairs and hear my father giggling like a little girl. Mind you, my father’s voice wasn’t deep like Barry White’s, but still we knew when the man was happy! With all that slapstick humour and nakedness running around my father always said that British humour was the best humour in the world! That and maybe the humour of David Letterman.

Ava told me that she hopes that American televison doesn’t take Misfits and turn them into their own watered-down version.

I told her, “Too late dear. They already did. It’s called ‘Heroes’!”

The only sad part is Robert Sheehan (Nathan) has decided to leave the show!

Do you know what I say?

Hand the Jigga a million quid on a silver platter and make him stay!

Yes, I say “quid” now.

I guess I’ve been watching the show too much!

Robert Sheehan is really the heart of the whole thing! Although, Iwan Rheon who plays Simon, is a close second, cause Jigga’s body is hot!

I hear that they are already taping season 3.

I guess I will just have to fall back on old clips of Nathan.

The Best of Nathan: (Spoiler Alert!)

Happy Birthday Ava!

Posted on 15th August 2011 in Culture

Ava,

I feel that on this very special day, I should say something poignant. Something that you will hold dear to your heart. Something that is so succinct that you will always remember it when you think of me. Something that my mother’s mother and her mother’s mother and my mother said to me on my birthday.

“STAY AWAY THE HELL AWAY FROM BOYS!”

Why break away from tradition?

Love Mommy!
